THE JOURNEY TO A NEW TOOTH
Immediate loading in implantology allows the placement of prosthetic teeth right after implant surgery, eliminating the traditional waiting period of several months.

Patient Assessment and Planning
Dra. Aina Ferrer will undertake an initial consultation in which the patient will undergo a comprehensive clinical evaluation, radiographic imaging, CT scans, digital intraoral scanning, and photographic documentation. For patients residing abroad, the initial evaluation and planning can be facilitated remotely, leveraging radiology facilities in their country of residence to obtain the necessary diagnostic imaging.

Implant Placement Surgery
Dental implants will be inserted during a scheduled morning session. Depending on the patient's needs, any non-viable teeth will be extracted at this time. Following the surgery, digital impressions will be taken to design the temporary prosthesis.

Fitting of the Temporary Prosthesis
In the afternoon of the same day, the temporary prosthesis will be fitted, immediately restoring the patient's dental function and appearance.

Final Prosthesis
After a healing period of approximately three months, the final prosthesis will be crafted and fitted, ensuring a perfect fit and function.

FAQS
The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants by Our Patients.
No, the placement of a dental implant does not hurt. Dental implants are placed under local anesthesia in the same office, in spaces prepared for this type of treatment. After the placement, when the effects of the anesthesia wear off, you may experience slight discomfort, which quickly disappears with routine analgesics or anti-inflammatories.
Implants don’t have an expiration date and can last a lifetime. However, it’s essential for the implant to be correctly placed. Additionally, maintaining good oral hygiene, following healthy lifestyle habits, and attending scheduled check-ups and maintenance appointments with your dentist are crucial.
Rejection of the implant as such does not exist. It’s true that there is a very small percentage of implants (less than 2%) that may not properly integrate with the bone during the implant’s integration period. This is known as early or primary implant failure, and the solution is to remove the implant that has not integrated with the bone, thoroughly clean the area, wait for 6 to 8 weeks, and then re-insert the implant.
In other cases, late or secondary implant failure may occur, which means that after years of implant function, it may need to be removed due to infection.
To prevent and avoid these types of failures, the most important thing is to attend all maintenance and annual check-ups as indicated by the dental professional in each case.
In some cases, yes, you can have a tooth on the same day or within 48 hours after implant placement. This is known as immediate load implant.
It’s important to note that this tooth will always be provisional, and a definitive one will be placed later (in 3 or 4 months).
For this type of procedure to be possible, it’s essential that the patient has good oral health and meets the following requirements:
– Sufficient quantity and quality of bone.
– Maintaining proper oral hygiene and care.
– Enjoying good periodontal health.
– Having a correct occlusion and not suffering from bruxism.
In other cases, it may be necessary to wait between 2 and 4 months to place the crown. This time may be extended if bone regeneration is needed before implant placement or if there are very large infectious lesions.
At Prat & Ferrer, we will advise you on the best option for you.
Being a smoker is not an absolute contraindication for implant placement. It’s well known that the effect of nicotine from tobacco reduces blood flow in the veins that supply bone and gums, disrupting the wound healing process and the implant integration process.
Smokers should be aware that they can get implants as long as they accept that the risk of complications after surgery will be higher than in non-smokers, and the implant failure rate will also increase.
The most common complications in smokers are mainly slowed healing, susceptibility to infection (due to decreased body defense capacity against bacterial agents), and difficulty in implant integration, i.e., the union of the implant with the bone.
For all these reasons, and considering that smoking is not good for the rest of the body, the fundamental recommendation is to quit smoking. If you don’t feel capable of quitting, it is advisable to stop smoking two weeks before the procedure and not to smoke again until 8 weeks after surgery to minimize its influence on the integration process.
The procedure for placing a dental implant under favorable conditions and without the need for any additional treatment takes about 20-30 minutes.
It depends on the amount of missing bone. When we place implants, our goal is for these implants to function like a natural tooth and be positioned to receive forces optimally. For this, we need there to be no lack of bone either horizontally (width) or vertically (height). Whether we can place the implant on the same day as bone depends on the type of bone defect present and the amount/volume to be gained. Whenever large bone reconstructions are required, everything cannot be done in a single procedure.
Certainly, whenever necessary, implant surgeries can be performed under sedation. At Prat & Ferrer, our goal is to maximize patient comfort. For those with phobias or past bad experiences, we can carry out all types of treatments under sedation in the same clinic, with the supervision of an anesthesiologist ensuring the procedure’s safety for the patient.

The absence of teeth compromises the rest of the dentition and can lead to problems in function, aesthetics, and even psychologically. The mouth and teeth are designed to work together to provide proper chewing and speaking function, so when teeth are missing, these functions are affected.
When teeth begin to be missing, the forces exerted by the teeth are not distributed evenly. Instead, the teeth near the space where the tooth is missing bear more force as they must compensate for the missing tooth. This increases the risk of losing other healthy teeth due to overload.
Additionally, when teeth start to be missing, nearby teeth also undergo positional changes. This is because, without contact with anything, they can move freely, creating inappropriate force points, which can lead to the loss of these teeth.
The price of a dental implant includes the implant (screw), the crown (tooth), and intermediate components (the connection between crown and implant). Sometimes, additional costs may include pre-treatment for bone regeneration if there is not enough bone to support the implant.
It’s essential to consider that there are over 500 brands of dental implants, and not all of them have the same scientific backing. Therefore, the price of the implant will be determined by its quality, as well as the technique and expertise of the specialist placing it.
Dr. Aina Ferrer works with top brands in the market (such as Straumann) and is highly specialized in implantology. These factors ensure the long-term success and durability of the implant. Thus, to determine the final price, each case must be evaluated individually.
